Ah yes, the end of another decade. Bring on the 2010’s, we are graduating and I see nothing but good things coming to all of us in this new decade of ours. Have a fabulous New Years Eve celebration whether that means having a few too many cold ones and making out with a random at midnight, or chilling out with a few good buddies.
Happy New Year!
You guys are such trend setters!!

Thank you every one for coming out to pub night last night. A good time was had by all and unlike previous gatherings with our class, there was not a sick girl in the bathroom to be seen. Special thanks to the 2nd year GDMA’ers. You guys came out in big numbers last night and we greatly appreciate it!

If you ever get that warm fuzzy feeling when you see a certain typeface, watch this slideshow.

Baggy jeans, baggy leather jackets, turtlenecks and flannel. Need I say more?
Words of wisdom from Wieden + Kennedy 12
I loved this song, and still do!!
What a week! If you see any zombies roaming about on the third floor of Kwantlen campus, don’t be alarmed. They are most likely one of us 4th year GDMA’ers. Most likely.
Having 4 final projects due in 2 consecutive days is less fun than it sounds. I’m just happy we survived with minimal lasting emotional trauma. Just 3 more projects and 1 final presentation to go!
And despite all of the craziness, we set up shop at the rotunda to sell our goodies today. We met some really awesome people from the fashion and interior design department. And some of our own 3rd year GDMA’ers came out too!
Thanks for all of your support!
And I leave you with this: (via GDMA’s favorite 100%Y)
Round 2. December 10th. Hopefully no power outages leading to high anxiety and thirsty people. This time your ticket is only $10 and you get a free drink, no line or cover and an entry to win the door prize. Ceili’s is a fun irish pub right in the heart of Granville St. All night highballs and pints are only $4. Good music, good people, good times. Contact a 4th year to get your ticket!
What really got me into graphic design was publication design and handmade books. I love seeing how books are made, and this video really captures the process of it. It reminds me in a way of the presentation given by Sirish Rao if anyone was at school to see that, although they didn’t make 20,000 books in this video.
And speaking of books and design, this video by the New Zealand Book Council is absolutely amazing.
Hi.
I recently revisited one of my favourite vloggers on YouTube and spent a good hour away from the piles of homework rewatching her videos. If you haven’t heard of the YouTube user ‘communitychannel’ you have been missing out. She is an avid blogger on random things from the making of love scenes to my favourite, ugly word of the day.
I watched this for the first time and it made me laugh in hysteria. Her accent helps.
If you find this funny, check out How They Make Love Scenes.
I know there are many of us in GDMA that are loyal fans of VANCOUVERISAWESOME.COM, and those who aren’t, should be. This website is solely dedicated to promoting all things kick ass about this amazing city of ours. They promote events, the arts, small businesses, and anything and everything that should be promoted. They also feature interviews with Vancouverites who have made it to the big time such as (a GDMA favourite) Ryan Reynalds, Douglas Coupland and pro snowboarder Leanne Pelosi. However, right now they are feeling the recession in a bad way and are seeking donation to keep the Non-Profit afloat. Please help these guys out, any bit helps. With your donation, your name is etched onto a donors plaque, you will get some freebies in the mail (GDMA’s own Nick Frühling designed one of 3 buttons) and get entered to win some rad prizes. Check out their website to see all the prizes and check out all the other AWESOME content.
Here are some of their prizes:
these are some inspirational words from the talented folks at Public School that I think all GDMA’ers can appreciate. Public School has many other great pieces of work on their site, this one rang true to me today. Keep on keeping on team!
***’Tis almost the season for tobogganing, tree decorating, and rosy cheeks from too much rum and egg nog!***
As a way of contributing to our GDMA grad show fundraising, as well as reviving the less common practice of hand-written mail, we have made some lovely pieces of holiday cheer to spread/ send to your friends and family.
Team Cardmaking’s first posting of a selection of Christmas/Thank you cards, photography by Peter Chu (Merci beaucoup Monsieur Chu!). More themes and season-appropriate imagery coming soon, we hope!
Come in sets of 3 for $5 or individually for $2.

The Frostbites Cupcakery crew would like to thank all the twilight saga fans and the Oakridge Empire Theatres for helping us raise another $4oo+ towards the GDMA grad show. We started each screening with a quick announcement to the audience, and it seems there were always more cheers for Team Jacob! The sales reflected that too. Double chocolate and black forest sold more than the red velvet and strawberry vanilla.

The GDMA 2010 class has come together and created this marvelously retrolicious calendar. A pen or vector illustration by each of the 19 students are put together to create this poster tear-away calendar. Each calendar comes with a silver binder clip for hanging.
They are $12 each. And again all profits go towards the GDMA 2010 grad show.
Leave a comment, or contact any 4th year GDMA’er for yours now! Thank you!
